There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where casino wagering is against the law. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime location, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; still, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are means around this, as is real of most borders.

The first Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred one armed bandits and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive vacation and hotel building that contains a number of conveniences accompanying the gambling hall, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
